Macroeconomic Health Report – August 2026

This report provides a compact view of Mongolia’s economic health using official indicators from the National Statistics Office of Mongolia and the Bank of Mongolia. The index combines annual real GDP growth, annual inflation, banking-sector risk (non-performing loans as a share of total loans), the annual fiscal balance relative to nominal GDP, the annual trade balance relative to nominal GDP, and daily exchange- rate growth volatility.

Each indicator is scored according to its own economic conditions using a transparent seven-band scale, from 1 (most favourable) to 7 (least favourable). The overall index is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the available component
scores. Missing observations are left unscored and do not enter the calculation.

Annual inflation remains elevated at 12.5%, while the banking sector’s non-performing-loan ratio is 5.2%. The annual fiscal balance is -1.9% of GDP, while the annual trade balance is positive at 30.5% of GDP. Daily exchange-rate growth volatility remains low. Based on the available indicators, the mean component score is 3.0.
